John M. "Jack" Barnes

John M. Barnes, 87, of Battle Creek, died May 6, 2026. John was born November 16, 1938 in Battle Creek to John and Alma (Burgess) Barnes. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree and served his country honorably in the United States Army. In his free time, John loved woodworking and was very talented.

John married the former Karen Winn on February 4, 1961, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Deborah Hall, Scott (Corey) Barnes, Heather (Colin) Spitler and Michael (Jami) Barnes, 8 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Captain James H. Barnes, his sister, Marjorie Barnes and a grandson, Benjamin Spitler.
