John Andrew Craig, 86, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo.
John was born March 18, 1938, at Leila Y. Montgomery Post Hospital to Andrew “Scotty” and Elizabeth (Graham) Craig. He grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1956 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and attended Washtenaw Community College.
John Andrew Craig and Linda Kay Miller were united in marriage on June 24, 1972, in Battle Creek. Surviving are Linda, his wife of 52 years, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. John was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Elsie Craig; a brother, Doug G. Craig; and two sisters, Joyce G. Rush and Jeanne Draper.
John was a radio broadcaster for the former WELL AM & FM in Battle Creek. John honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He completed his pilot training at Aerospace Technologies in Melbourne, Florida. John was employed as a 2nd officer with East Coast Flying for eight years. He completed his Respiratory Therapy Training at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. He managed the Dearborn Drive-In Theater and Cinema J in Chicago, IL at the Ford City Center. John then graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham in HSAD, Health Services Administration. He was employed as a respiratory therapist at San Bernardino General Hospital. John was employed as the Assistant Director of Respiratory Care and the Emergency Trauma Care Center at Leila Hospital. John retired after 42 dedicated years of service in the health care industry. He also operated the State Theatre in Olivet for six years.
John was a former Administrative Director of the Calhoun County TB and Emphysema Association and president of the Michigan Heart Association, He loved reading, planes and trains and watching old movies until the credits were finished. He was an avid Detroit Tiger fan. John will be remembered for his sense of humor and telling stories.
Friends will be received 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, where you are encouraged to celebrate John’s life.
