John M. "Jack" Squier, age 86, of Battle Creek died Saturday evening, May 31, 2014. He was born in Battle Creek on October 10, 1927, the loving son of John B. and Marian (Roof) Squier and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy in 1945 & 1946. Jack retired as Director of Engineering at Clark Equipment Company in 1983 after more than 32 years of faithful service. He previously had been employed at Duplex Printing and Post Cereals.
Jack married the "Love of his Life", Shirley J. Flanders in Battle Creek on April 3, 1948; she sadly preceded him in death on May 26, 2006. He is survived by his children, James (Sylvie) Squier of Irons, MI, Sheryl Halverson of Brooklyn, MI, and Sandra (David) Westner of Saginaw, MI; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother & sister-in-laws, Marilyn & Robert Motzell and Robert & Betty Flanders, and several nieces, nephews & very good friends. Jack was also preceded in death by his sister, Janice Crow and brother-in-law, Floyd Crow.
Jack was truly a "Jack of all trades" who enjoyed woodworking, piddling and fixing things. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Jack enjoyed spending time with his friends and loved "His Martinis".
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Jack's life will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
