John C. Miller, 94, of Battle Creek, died April 2, 2024. John was born March 14, 1930 in Battle Creek to Carl and Marietta (Shaffer) Miller. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, as Class President in 1949, and later from Western Michigan University. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1951-1953. John spent most of his working career as a labor marketing analyst for the State of Michigan, retiring in 1991.
John was very active in the community and held memberships at the First Congregational Church, American Legion Post #54, the local Masonic Lodge, Battle Creek Exchange Club and the Battle Creek Jaycees. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and helped out with the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls.
John is survived by his two children, Creighton “Craig” (Tina) Miller and Michelle (Jim) Orns; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
John married the former Georgia Wirt in 1949. The couple enjoyed 69 years of marriage until her passing in 2018. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Burdick and Ginny Silcott.
Funeral services to celebrate John’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. A private Interment will be at Leonidas Cemetery.
