John Leonard "Jack" Pooler

John Leonard “Jack” Pooler, age 87 of Pennfield Township passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Jack was born in Dexter, Maine July 31, 1936, the son of Bernard E. (Poulin) Pooler and Simone Anna Landry and traced his ancestry to the founding families of Quebec City, Quebec and Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia in the 1630’s.

He graduated from Bucksport (Maine) High School in 1954 and moved to Colon, Michigan in 1955. Jack was employed by the Haas Corp in Mendon from 1955 to 1962 and was a former amateur radio operator “K8MWP”.

In 1962, he became a civilian employee of the Michigan State Police at the East Lansing Headquarters in the Communications Bureau. He then worked with the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), becoming supervisor of the LEIN Field Services Section. Jack retired in 1996.

Jack married Denise Marie (Wilson) Shell in Lansing in 1967. He is survived by his wife, Denise; daughter, Cynthia Marie Shell of Battle Creek; granddaughter, Allison Paksi and great-grandson, Carson Bazan, both of Marne. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Mary Pooler of Ann Arbor and an indeterminate remaining number of 32 first cousins. He was a fan of HO model railroading and, in his day, liked to work in the woods.

His family will have a dinner to celebrate Jack’s life.
