John Timothy Reen, age 77, of Battle Creek passed away Monday afternoon, March 18, 2019. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 7, 1942, the loving son of Timothy J. and Kathleen B. (Brown) Reen, and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1966. A talented carpenter, John owned & operated A.J. Reen Construction with his sons for many years.
John married the "Love of His Life" and "Greatest Hobby", Mara Sue Caley in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 7, 1962; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Timothy P. (Amber) Reen, John P. (Karen) Reen, Christopher M. (Susan) Reen and Jeanine P. (Jeff) Winkler; his special daughter, Deborah J. Reen; his grandchildren, Ronald (Courtney) Trumbull II., Amber M. (Robert) McCarty, Meghan A. (Steven) Miller, Jeremy J. Winkler, Jeanine C. Winkler, and Emily E. Reen; his great-grandchildren, Hailey N. McCarty, Abigail F. McCarty, Lillian G. McCarty, and Adora R. Trumbull; his sisters, Mary McMahon, Kay McDonough, and Trudy Reen; his brother, Jeremiah Reen; and several nieces & nephews. John was sadly preceded in death by his son, A. James Reen; his parents; and two sisters, Rita Conelly and Eileen McDonough.
John was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church for many years. He enjoyed boating on the ocean and St. Mary's Lake, and betting with Mara on weekly Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and Notre Dame games. But most of all, John truly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 25th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where the Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John D. Fleckenstein, 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 26th at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, Battle Creek. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials directed to St. Philip Roman Catholic Church or the BCACS Foundation would be appreciated.
