Emblem
Joseph David "Joe" Goss, age 72, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly on Thursday evening, May 6, 2021. Joe was a Husband, Father and Grandfather first; a true friend second; and he led a full "No Holds Barred" life.

Joe grew up in Anawalt, West Virginia, and attended Gary High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Philippines and Vietnam, working as an aircraft mechanic for his four years. When he came out of the service, he went to Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, Michigan to earn a degree in Airframe and Power Plant Certification. He worked at Selfridge Air National Guard Base until 1980 when he moved to Battle Creek Air National Guard Base until he retired in 2000. He then worked at Arcadia Brewing Company and helped bottle and repair machinery. He also worked at Duncan Aviation for two years and Chapel Hill as a custodian. Finally, he worked at the Corona Smoke Shop until December 2020.

Joe married Sally Kendrick on October 31st, 1970, and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in northern Michigan with their family. He had three children; Jason (Courtney) of Marshall, Angelique of Battle Creek, and Chris of Boyne City; five grandchildren; Christian, Malachi, Brayden, Xander, and Asa.

Joe treasured his friends as much as he did his family. He recently put together a monthly lunch group for the old Air National Guard retirees. He spent a lot of time with his friends after retirement enjoying their company and laughs.

Interment with full military honors was held Friday, June 18th at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The service was recorded and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/564662327. An Open House to celebrate Joe's life will be held at the Dark Horse Brewing Company from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19th. Memorials directed to the Calhoun County Red White & Blue Foundation c/o the Battle Creek Community Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.

The family has created a beautiful Tribute Video of Joe's life and it may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/560128132.
