Josephine, age 91, died Tuesday evening, March 15, 2016 at Woodlands Cottage of the Borgess Gardens, Kalamazoo, MI.
Josephine, the daughter of Ottavio and Maria (Cuilluffo) Guarisco, was born in Kalamazoo on August 7, 1924; had been a lifetime area resident and a 1942 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church of Gull Lake.
She was a consummate housewife who loved to cook and always maintained her flower gardens, but her priority in life was her family and spending as much time with them as possible.
Josephine was united in marriage to Harold Walter Crawford at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kalamazoo on November 26, 1949 and he sadly preceded her in death on November 24, 2012. Surviving is her daughter, Pamela M. (Dave) Crawford of Plant City, FL; two sons, Gregory M. (Sherry) Crawford of Galesburg and Harold W. (Kathy L. Ward) of Woodland, CA; three grandchildren, Hannah (Dustin) Bivins, Shayne (Josh) Wheeler and Josh (Ashley) Crawford and five great grandchildren, Brendan, Sadie, Benjamin, Brian and Charlie. Josephine was also preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister and five brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 1st at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 12648 East D Avenue, Augusta, with Father James F. Adams, Celebrant and Deacon Michael A. Carl, Assisting. Family and friends will continue Josephine's life celebration with a time of fellowship and brunch in the Church's Social Hall immediately following the Mass. Josephine's family and friends will leave the Church parking lot at 12:30 p.m. in procession to Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service for both Josephine and Harold. Harold will have full military honors bestowed by the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Josephine's honor may be directed to Borgess Gardens Activity Fund, 3057 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49048. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel (269-629-6022) is assisting Josephine's family with her arrangements.
