M. Joyce MacCreery, 86, of Battle Creek, died at The Reflections Memory Care on Monday, January 21, 2013.
She was born January 7, 1927 in Battle Creek, MI to Garald Austin and Isabelle Joyce (Walter) Barton, Sr. Joyce grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1944 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Prior to her marriage, Joyce worked as a service representative at Michigan Bell Telephone.
Joyce was united in marriage to Richard B. MacCreery on August 10, 1946 in Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by Richard, her husband of 58 years on March 5, 2004. Surviving are a daughter, Joy MacCreery of East Leroy; three sons, Michael (Ann) MacCreery of Richland, Richard MacCreery of Norton Shores, Christopher (Melissa) MacCreery of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Kelly (Luis) Torres, Kathleen MacCreery, Brian MacCreery, Jennifer MacCreery, James MacCreery, Rebecca MacCreery, Madelyn MacCreery, Colin MacCreery, Ian MacCreery; great-grandchildren, Megyn, Kyla, Alexander, Spencer and Jocelyn; a great-great-grandson, Norman and a brother, Garald A. Barton, Jr. Joyce was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Meri Beth MacCreery in 1950; and by a sister, Patricia Pierce.
Joyce was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, was a President of the American Baptist Women Group and helped with all kinds of luncheons and dinners. Joyce was active as a Boy Scout Auxiliary member; along with Campfire Girls and coached with the Urbandale Girls Softball league. She bowled in the Merrywood Northside League, with her sister and sister-in-law at the former Springlake Lanes. Joyce enjoyed traveling with Richard, but more than anything she loved spending time with her family.
At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. A Reception is to follow at the First Baptist Church of Battle Creek on Michigan Ave.
