Joyce A. Rush

Joyce A. Rush, 79, of Battle Creek, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Bronson Battle Creek. She was born in Albion, Michigan on September 10, 1935, the loving daughter of Herbert and Elzora (Bergstresser) DeLano. Joyce was a graduate of Lakeview High School and obtained an associate degree in accounting at Western Michigan University. She retired as an accountant at the Kellogg Company after more than 33 years of faithful service.

Joyce was united in marriage to Marvin Ray Rush in 1974; sadly he preceded her in 2009. She is survived by her children, Tod A. Rush, Erik M. (Boni) Hansen, Michael D. Hansen, Susan E. Rush, and Greg J. Hansen, all of Battle Creek; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a son, Craig in 1991.

Joyce enjoyed bowling, bridge, golf, jigsaw puzzles, cooking, hot air ballooning, volunteering at Binder Park Zoo, her Detroit Lions and Tigers, and Jessica Fletcher in "Murder, She Wrote". She loved to knit, knitting baby caps and volunteering at the local hospitals. Joyce was the center, the matriarch, of the family.

At the request of the family, friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Joyce's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2014 at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery chapel, with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
