Judith Mary "Judi" (Coddington) Mahoney, 83, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully at home with her family at her side, after a long, brave battle with Huntington’s Disease, on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Judi was born April 12, 1942, in Jackson, Michigan, the daughter of Frederick "Ted" and Mary A. (Smith) Coddington. Judi grew up in Jackson and was a 1960 graduate of Jackson High School. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in teaching and education from Michigan State University. After raising her family Judi did some substitute teaching for Lakeview Public Schools.
Judith Mary Coddington and David Lawrence Mahoney were united in marriage on August 29, 1964, in Jackson, Michigan. When Dave and Judi first moved to Battle Creek Judi worked hard behind the scenes promoting Danielson Schultz and Co. as Dave was working to grow the company.
Sadly, Judi was preceded in death by her husband, Dave on June 8, 2019. Surviving are their three sons, William “Bill” Mahoney of Battle Creek, Paul (Sonya) Mahoney of Kalamazoo and James “Jim” Mahoney of Okemos; grandchildren, Mitchell (Gabriella) Mahoney, Brandon Mahoney, Nicholas Enos (Kate), Katie (Garrett) Bailey, Trevor Francis, Brett Francis, Hannah Mahoney, Katelyn Mahoney, Carson Mahoney, Cameron “Cami” Mahoney; former daughter-in-law, Stacey Mahoney; siblings Peter Fredrick and Susan Slameka; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Judi was a member of The Church of The Resurrection, where she was always willing to lend a hand no matter what needed to be done. She was an active volunteer and Docent at Binder Park Zoo. She and Dave were active in the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce. Judi and Dave enjoyed Hot Air Balloons and went to New Mexico several times for balloon events. They even took a hot air balloon ride on their 30th wedding anniversary. Judi and Dave had a large group of couples who enjoyed traveling to see plays together, “playing Bridge” and attending the Battle Creek Brass Band Concerts and other music venues together. Judi and Dave also enjoyed whale watching on their two trips to Hawaii. A devoted member of her bridge club and book club for many years. She treasured the friendships she built there. Her passion for puzzles continued until her transition. She is remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, in-law, church member, friend and a faithful MSU spartan fan! She bravely battled Huntington’s Disease for 15 years, with a smile on her face and a good word for everyone she encountered.
Judi’s family will receive friends 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Friday at The Church of The Resurrection. A service to celebrate Judi’s life will be officiated by The Reverend Mark Jenkins at The Church of The Resurrection 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025.
