Julaine Anne (Cavanaugh) Thompson Stovall

Julaine Ann (Cavanaugh) Thompson Stovall, 92, of Battle Creek died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Thursday, March 1, 2018.

Julaine was born August 12, 1925 in Lansing, Michigan the daughter of Michael J. and Gladys (Heil) Cavanaugh. She grew up in Lansing, graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School and attended St. Mary's College at Notre Dame. Julaine was employed at the age of 62 for Art Craft Display in Lansing, Michigan, where she worked for 20 years until the age of 82.

Julaine was formerly married to Robert W. Thompson and they had four sons they raised together. Surviving are four sons, Robert W. ("Trish") Thompson and John M. (Sue) Thompson both of Battle Creek, James H. (Carol) Thompson of Tempe, AZ, David P. Thompson of Grand Rapids; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Helen Walsh of Grand Rapids, Dorothy (Robert) Stack of Florida, Carol (Joe) Ryan of Columbus, OH, Donald (Maureen) Cavanaugh of Omaha, Nebraska; and a sister-in-law, Jan Cavanaugh of Cheboygan, MI. Julaine was preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, Tom Cavanaugh, Jack (Dorothy) Cavanaugh and Ruth (Ken) Kniivila.

Julaine was a past member of St. Philip Catholic Church, President of the St. Philip Guild, the Junior League of Battle Creek and was Vice President of the Leila Y. Post Memorial Hospital Guild. She served on Boards of March of Dimes, United Way, Cancer Society, Visiting Nurse and Volunteer Board of Battle Creek.

Julaine was an avid golfer and was a member over the years of three local golf courses. She was very active in women's organizations being President of the Women's Association at Bedford Valley Country Club, Chairman of the Battle Creek Country Club Women's Organization, and a member of the Battle Creek Women's City Golf Association. One of her most remarkable accomplishments of which she was most proud was her scoring a 38 on the back nine of Marywood Country Club.

One of the single things that Julaine held dear was being a mother to her four sons. She also enjoyed being with family and friends, cooking, plants, reading, music and football. She loved home decorating, and entertaining. In her earlier years she loved dancing, bowling, swimming, walking, bicycling and physical fitness exercises.

Per Julaine's wishes, she will be cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame in Julaine's memory.
