Julia Marie (Lemm) Saye

November 10, 1931 — November 7, 2015

Julia Marie (Lemm) Saye, 83 of Battle Creek died at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods on Saturday, November 7, 2015.

Julia was born November 10, 1931 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Ralph Henry and Nora Elizabeth (Breslin) Lemm. She grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1950 graduate of St. Philip Catholic Central. Julia was employed as a Teacher's Aide for 25 years, working with emotionally and physically impaired students in the Battle Creek Public Schools. She was especially passionate for the needs of the children she taught.

Julia Marie Lemm was united in marriage to Louis Mertz "Jack" Saye on August 8,1951. Early in their marriage, they began one of the many exciting adventures they were destined to share when they moved to Flixton, England, where Jack was stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base. The first two of six children were born there. Surviving are Jack, her ever-loving husband of 64 years; children, Ralph (Evelyn) Saye of Battle Creek, Jackie (Bill) Heinrich of Sturgis, Sue (Jack) Hagist of Bellevue, Tim (Vicky) Saye of Climax, Tom (Laura) Saye of Venice, FL, Peter (Irene) Saye of Battle Creek; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Nora (Breslin) Lemm; and sister, Mary Ellen Misner.

Julia was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, and the Michigan Education Association. She was known for her compassionate spirit and caring for all children as if they were her own. Some of her favorite hobbies were crafting with family (especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren often found toddling around her home). It's hard to say whether she was known best for her kindness to all, or her delicious pies. Her life will continue to be celebrated as memories of her loving nature lingers withal of us.

The family looks forward to celebrating Julia's life with friends from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 105 Capital Avenue N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Christopher J. Derda 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
