June I. Walter

June (Mott) Walter, age 88, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Monday, Feb 15, 2016 at her residence in Tucson, AZ. June was born March 6, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI to Thomas and Claudine (Williams) Mott. She graduated with pride from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1945. June met the love of her life, Phillip D. Walter, and on May 10, 1947, they were married in Marshall, MI.

Upon starting a family, June and Phil moved to Battle Creek, MI. Here June thrived as a homemaker and was actively involved with the Post School PTA. She enjoyed cooking and became renown in the community for her delicious meals and desserts. When not busy at home, she assisted her husband with the operation of their business Phil Walter's Auto Specialist. In her free time, June enjoyed traveling with her family and visited all 50 states, usually towing their Airstream travel trailer.

June was a member of the Battle Creek Antique Car Club. During retirement, Phil and June enjoyed spending the winters in Mesa, AZ. In Mesa, she was an active member of the Greenfield Village Resort Tennis Club. In 2013, after many years of illness, Phil passed away and June moved to the Mountain View Retirement Village in Tucson, AZ. With passion and drive she set out to enjoy her remaining years, making many new friends and enjoying the year round warm weather.

Surviving are daughter, Constance "Connie" (Dennis) Howes of Hickory Corners, MI; son, Daniel (Elaine) Walter of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Scott (Sara) Howes, Andrew (Darcy) Howes, Alan Walter and Cara (Cody) Rickard, and four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Abigail, Jacob and Reece Howes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip D. Walter on July 24, 2013; her parents, her stepmother, LaVon Mott, and half-brothers, Frank Oosting, Jack Oosting, Ronald Mott and Roger Mott.

Friends will be received 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 105 Capital N.E. Battle Creek, MI. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
