Karen DeAnn Britten, 71, of Battle Creek, died Friday, July 27, 2018, at her home. She was born January 5, 1947 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Donald A. and Rosemary B. (Cosgrove) Pyatt. Karen was a 1965 graduate of Durand High School and attended Ferris State University.
Karen was a social worker for State of Michigan, retiring in 1997. After her retirement she worked at the former Emily Andrus Home for many years.
She loved spending time with her family, reading mystery novels, watching crime dramas, watching birds, working with the Girl Scouts, in her flower garden and going camping.
On May 18, 1968 Karen was united in marriage to Richard W. ("Dick" "GM") Britten Jr. in Battle Creek he preceded her in death on February 7, 2017. Karen is survived by her three children, Ami (Brooks Vardeman) Britten of South Carolina, Jon R. (Emily) Britten of Bronson, MI, Jaime L. (Charles) Collins of Battle Creek; six grandchildren; Lexi, Cameron, Kelsey, Kyler, Kahle, and Jacob and 4 grand-dogs, Biscuit, Jaxx, Precious and Scamper.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a cousin Doug Cosgrove and brother-in-law Vern Carpenter.
A visitation is planned one-hour prior from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. before the memorial service at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 105 Capital Ave. N.E. Battle Creek, MI 49017. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead officiating. Interment will follow at the West Pennfield Hicks Cemetery, Pennfield Township, MI.
