Karen A. Logan, 81, of Richland, passed away September 25, 2025. Karen was born December 11, 1943, in Hillsdale, MI to Vincent and Mary (Graham) Nichols. She graduated from Edwardsburg High School as class valedictorian in 1961 and went on to get her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1965. She worked at The Upjohn Company as a computer programmer for several years where she met her future husband, Ron, before leaving to raise her family. She later returned to work at the Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center (KAMSC) and also did volunteer tax preparation work for many years.
Karen married Ronnie “Ron” Logan on March 21, 1970, who survives. She is also survived by her two sons, Randy (Ann), Caledonia, MI, and Casey (Kathy), Carlsbad, CA; and her four grandchildren, Eli and Ezra; Harrison and Hayden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Martha Nichols and her brother, David Nichols.
Karen enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing tennis and bridge, traveling, knitting and sewing, and any kind of puzzle, word game or brain teaser. She made many quilts and articles of clothing for her family over the years and enjoyed numerous travels to many parts of the US and the world to see her kids and grandkids and all of their various activities. She also played a key role as decoration partner to builder husband Ron in the creation of their unique home of 45 years - a geodesic dome situated on Little Long Lake north of Richland, where many wonderful family memories were made. A perfect day for Karen would be spending time on the water watching her grandchildren tubing and skiing, grilling out or enjoying homemade pizza followed by a riveting game of poker.
A memorial service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Centrica Hospice (centricacare.org/giving/), the Richland Area Community Center (www.richlandareacc.org/donations/), or the Gull Lake Community Schools Foundation (www.glcsf.org/).
