Karen Marie (Galloup) Oliver, 63, of Durham, North Carolina and formerly of Battle Creek died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Monday, January 2, 2017, after a brief illness.
She was born May 12, 1953 in Battle Creek, Michigan to John Olin and Marilyn Theresa (Eckrich) Galloup. She went through St. Philip Elementary School, was a 1971 graduate of Pennfield High School and received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Nazareth College. Karen has been employed in nursing for 33 years and was currently employed as the Director of Nursing at Brookdale Home Care in Durham, NC. Karen had lived in Battle Creek, Northern Michigan, Naples, FL and Durham, NC.
Surviving are her children, Gary (Heather) Rudd, II of Durham, NC, Meredith (David) Wright of Battle Creek, MI; grandchildren, Treyton and Kezia Wright, and Delainey, Garrison and Preston Rudd; siblings, Stephen Galloup of Portage, MI, Jeannie VandenBerg of Taos, NM, Ann (Gregg) Agens of Naples, FL, Theresa (Roderick) Burke of Battle Creek, MI and Jessica Fleming also of Battle Creek; a dear friend, Bob Buroker; a special niece, Lindsey Kaiser of Darien, CT; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Karen was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John C. Galloup and Mark A. Galloup; a nephew, Benjamin J. Burke and a niece, Emily E. Galloup.
Karen was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, NC. She enjoyed golfing, traveling and special trips with her sisters. Karen especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Friends will be received 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Catholic Church, 92 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017, by Fr. Craig Lusk 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2017. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek.
