Karl Joseph Albaugh

Karl J. Albaugh, 79, of Portage and formerly of Battle Creek, died at Bronson in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.

He was born April 6, 1935 in Marshall, Michigan to Kenneth and Ruth (Vallaire) Albaugh. Karl was raised in Marshall and was a 1955 graduate of Marshall High School. He served with U.S. Army and was discharged in 1963. Karl retired as a head operator in the packing department in 1997, after 32 years with the Kellogg Company.

Karl was united in marriage to Carol J. Howie on October 8, 1960 at St. Philip Catholic Church. Surviving are Carol, his wife of nearly 54 years; son, Greg (Linda) Albaugh of Battle Creek; two daughters, Leigh (Scott) Truhn of Scotts and Wendi (Bruce) Ruggles of Portage; seven grandchildren; a brother, Keith (Ruth) Albaugh of Marshall and several nieces and nephews and their families. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Thelma McLain and two brothers, Kenneth Albaugh, Jr. and David Albaugh.

Karl was a 52 year member of St. Philip Catholic Church and currently attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing , traveling with Carol and especially spending time with his grandchildren and family. Karl was an accomplished handyman and enjoyed building and repair projects for his family and at home.

Karl's family will receive friends 12:30-1:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at St. Philip Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John D. Fleckenstein at 1:00 p.m. following the visitation.
