Katherine Ann "Kathy" (Vasel) Latty

October 11, 1950 — December 11, 2020

Katherine "Kathy" Ann (Vasel) Latty, 70, a life-long Battle Creek resident, died peacefully at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence on Friday, December 11, 2020.

Kathy was born October 11, 1950 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Naum and Petrulla (Christ) Vasel. She was a 1968 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and attended Kellogg Community College. Kathy was employed for 48 years at Leila Hospital, Battle Creek Health System, and Bronson Battle Creek. She retired in 2017 as the Executive Assistant for the Chief Operating Officer, James McKernan.

Katherine Ann Vasel was united in marriage to Bradford Earle Latty on October 10, 1969 at the former First Wesleyan Church in Battle Creek. Surviving are her husband, Brad; a special niece, Laura Hayter; two special nephews, Doug Hayter and Paul Baker; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and three half-sisters: Sandy Bailey, Ramona Baker, and Louise Hayter.

After retirement, Kathy signed up to volunteer at the hospital. She loved cooking, especially making Albanian dishes from recipes that her mother brought to the United States when she and her husband immigrated here. She loved her community, knew the connections, and was a valuable source of information. She dearly loved her cat, Lucy. Kathy will be remembered as an organized, in-charge person whether at work or play. She enjoyed shopping, attending different theatre venues, and loved organizing lunch/dinner outings for friends.

Friends will be received 3:00-5:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. A service to celebrate Kathy's life will be officiated by James McKernan on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Due to recent regulations, attendance is limited to 25 persons. The service will be live-streamed, and those wishing to view may visit https://vimeo.com/489971917 or 'like & follow' the funeral home Facebook page.
