Kathleen Coffman

October 8, 1946 — June 13, 2022

Kathleen Frances (McVeigh) Coffman, 75, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2022 at Glenn Arbor Hospice after a short illness.

Kathy was born October 8, 1946 in Jackson, MI, the 5th of 14 children to William C and Ruth (Marble) McVeigh. The family moved to Battle Creek when she was a young child. Kathy attended St Philip School and graduated from Lakeview High School. As a teen she worked for her father's business, Capital Auto Wash. On October 2, 1963, she married Michael Coffman. Kathy was a homemaker and lovingly raised their 5 children. In addition, she provided day care to many neighborhood children. Kathy was editor and chief of the McVeigh Newsletter, a quarterly publication she would distribute to 70+ family members and friends for 20 years. After the kids were grown and out of the house, Kathy worked part time at Cereal City USA, Binder Park Zoo and K-Mart in downtown Battle Creek. Kathy kept herself busy with sewing, quilting and crafting. If somebody was getting married, having a baby or celebrating a special occasion, Kathy would gift them one of her beautiful quilts. She would also sell her items at craft shows. When she wasn't sitting at her sewing machine, Kathy enjoyed spending time at the family cottage and traveling with her husband.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 59 years Mike Coffman; daughters Patricia (Mark) Salyers of Mt Clemens; Ruth (Don) VanNispen of Garden City; Michelle (Randy) Warner of Battle Creek and Mary (Mike) Long of Battle Creek; son John Coffman of Traverse City; grandchildren, Christopher Salyers, Joshua Salyers, Morgan Salyers, Alex Irish, Kellee Irish, Donny VanNispen, Ben Warner, Anthony Warner, Zachery Warner, Spencer Coffman, Brendan Coffman, Wilson Coffman, Zackary Long and Benjamin Long; great grandchildren Benjamin Salyers, William Salyers, Nora Salyers, Zoey VanNispen, Nellie Pacza, Kinzlee Irish, Ana Warner and Blair Warner; sisters Patricia Baker of Oak Island, NC; Anne (Dan) Webb of Winnabow, NC; and Mary (Barry) Nowlin of Ceresco; brothers William C McVeigh Jr of Vicksburg; Michael (Carol) McVeigh of Irvine, CA; Thomas McVeigh of Tucson, AZ; Joseph (Robin) McVeigh of Battle Creek; Robert (John Martin) McVeigh of Raleigh, NC; Charles (Barbara) McVeigh of Florence, KY; and James (Cindy) McVeigh of Scottsdale, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
