Kathleen Lyon

Kathleen Lyon, age 78 of Battle Creek, passed away May 25, 2024 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.  She was born on Dec. 9, 1945 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of Robert and Dorotha (McConnohie) Daly.  She graduated from Pennfield High School in 1964 and went on to earn an associate's degree.   While working full time for the Battle Creek Federal Center, she pursued further studies and in 1990 graduated from Spring Arbor College with a bachelor of arts degree.  Kathleen retired from the Federal Center in 2006 after more than 29 years of service.  She was a charter member and elder of Pennfield Presbyterian Church, where she most recently served as a member of session and the session clerk. Kathleen enjoyed sewing, learning the silversmith trade, and studying the scriptures.  She also loved fashion and art.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Evelyn Strait of Boulder Creek, California; Maria Byrd of Huntington, Indiana; stepchildren David Strait of Shreveport, Louisiana; Zeb Strait of Fort Meyers, Florida; and Jena Lenoir of Livonia, Michigan; several grandchildren; her sister, Judith Hartt of Everett Washington; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friend Lauri Arras.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the Pennfield Presbyterian Church, 7979 St. Mary’s Lake Rd., Battle Creek, MI 49017 with the Rev. Dr. Annemarie Kidder, officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the church. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, Battle Creek.
