Kathleen M. "Kathi" Smith

Kathleen M. "Kathi" Smith, age 69, of Mansfield, OH and formerly of Battle Creek, MI, died Monday evening, March 25, 2013 in Mansfield.

Kathi, the daughter of Marlin and Marguerite (Durbin) Smith, was born on October 12, 1943 in Battle Creek. She was a 1961 graduate of St. Philip High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University in 1965. Kathi taught for many years in the Battle Creek area at St. Jerome and St. Joseph Elementary Schools. She moved to Florida for several years before moving to Mansfield. Kathi was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church of Mansfield. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, watching baseball and was a talented quilter.

Surviving is her sister, Vicki (Jerome) Kosmerick of Battle Creek; four nephews, Todd Kosmerick of Cary, North Carolina, James (Cathy) Kosmerick of Bay City, Michigan, Brian (Jamie) Kosmerick of Portage and Aaron (Clarissa) Smith of Battle Creek; one great-niece and six great-nephews. Kathi was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ross Smith and a very dear friend and caregiver, Sheila Baker.

Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Kathi's life will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 92 Capital Avenue, NE, Battle Creek with Father Francis A. Marotti, Parochial Vicar, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kathi's honor may be directed to St. Philip Catholic High School. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek is in charge of all the arrangements.
