Kathryn Jean (Waid) Sober of Battle Creek, MI





Kathryn, age 86, went to be with Her Lord on Saturday evening, November 7, 2015 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.


Kathryn, the daughter of Howard J. and Helen J. (Ling) Waid, was born in Webberville, MI on February 13, 1929. She was a 1947 graduate of Dansville (MI) High School; attended Michigan State University for three years and received her teaching certificate from Western Michigan University. Kathryn was an elementary school teacher for 20 years. She taught in the Alchin School, the old Babcock (two room) School, Albion, Webberville and Tekonsha Public Schools; Family Altar School and Hillsdale Christian School. Kathryn was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Battle Creek; the Gideon Auxiliary and a former president and officer of the Litchfield Garden Club. She enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening and distributing God's Word through the Gideon ministry.


Kathryn was united in marriage to Dale C. Sober at her family's home in Webberville on August 17, 1952. Surviving is her husband of 63 years, Dale; her children, Karen S. Sober of Ft. Wayne, IN, James W. and Maricel Sober of Battle Creek and Kathy (Sober) and David Owens of Richland, MI; three precious grandchildren, Derek Owens, Katelyn (Owens) Tuinier and Kelsey (Owens) Rogers; six great grandchildren; her sisters, Joyce and Ronald Reynolds of Clifton Park, NY, and Ruth and Glen Etelamaki of Holt, MI and several nieces and nephews. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents.


The Funeral Service to celebrate Kathryn's life will be held on Wednesday, November 11th at 1:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral & Cremation Care, Battle Creek, with Pastor Roy Henry of Faith Baptist Church and retired Rev. Dr. Gary Spoor, officiating. Kathryn's family will greet friends from Noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Immediately following the Service, family and friends will gather at Faith Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 13840 S. Helmer Road, Battle Creek to continue Kathryn's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon. The Graveside Service and Committal will be held on Thursday, November 12th at 11:00 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Fowlerville, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kathryn's honor may be directed to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1151, Battle Creek, MI 49016.
