Kay Frances (Etter) Meldrum, 81, of Battle Creek, died peacefully at The Villa at Winston Court on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Kay was born October 27, 1939 in Battle Creek and was raised by her adopted parent's Milton J. and Flora McDonald (Fettes) Etter. She grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. Kay was employed as a waitress at the former Spa Steakhouse. She sold Home Interior Products and helped people decorate their homes. Kay was a superior salesperson and promoter. She managed and represented numerous companies food products through "Elite Marketing" and distributed samples at Meijer's and Sam's Club. She was a partner in Vogt's Apple Orchard in Jackson, Michigan for several years, where all the family was involved running the orchard, distributing cider, donuts and all the sweet products, especially in the fall.
Kay was formerly married to Jerry Vandenburg. Kay Frances Etter married Donald James Meldrum, Jr. on February 1976. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Don on February 17, 2014. Surviving are a son, Donald James (Barbara Przystas) Meldrum, III of Battle Creek; daughter, Kayla Vandenburg of Battle Creek; daughter-in-law, Cindy Vandenburg of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Alan Parlier, Rebecca Lykins, Rick (Jessica) Lykins, Crystal Lykins; great-grandchildren, Brice Parlier, Rick Lykins, Jr., Ian Lykins, and Katrina Lykins, Scott Lykins. In addition to her husband, Donald, Kay was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerry L. Vandenburg and two daughters, Julie and Becky Vandenburg.
Kay was a member and former president of the Lakeview Lioness Club. She enjoyed doing crafts, growing flowers, working in her yard and caring for her roses. Kay loved animals and her dogs were members of the family. She was a great hostess, mother, grandmother and friend. Kay loved people and prior to her dementia, her gift was making everyone she spoke to feel special.
