Kay J. (Mosher) Opich

Kay J. (Mosher) Opich, 89, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died peacefully at home on Friday, May 10, 2024. 

Kay was born  March 27, 1935, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Richard G. and Grace Marie (Collamore) Mosher. She attended the former Raymond Road School and was a 1953 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Kay was briefly employed as a bank teller for Michigan National Bank. She worked many years for Gage Printing Company as a Binder and Collator. 

The first time Fred saw Kay as a Southeastern Junior High Student, he hoped she would be his wife. On June 27, 1954, at Central Christian Church, Kay Joy Mosher was united in marriage to Frederick Opich. Surviving are her husband of nearly 70 years, Fred; two daughters, Laurie Hill and Lisa Opich/Eason (Richard) all of Battle Creek; three grandchildren, Trevor (Kelsey) Eason, Mitchell (Tess) Hill, Pierce Eason; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Beverly (Forrest) Mark of Sturgis. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Diane “DeeDee” Malone and a son-in-law. 

Kay was a longtime member of Central Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School to two  & three years-olds for many years. She loved working in her flower gardens. Kay crocheted baby blankets for all of her family as they were born. She enjoyed scrapbooking and taking trips with her sisters. Kay was the “Cookie Queen” and made cookies for everybody, including the mail carriers. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay will be remembered as God’s gift of love, for her patience, her caring way and truly a pinnacle of a humble servant. Her legacy will live on through her family. 

Friends will be received 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, where a funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, May  24, 2024. Committal and interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery 10:00 a.m. Saturday. May 25, 2024.
