Kay Joy Tobias

Kay Joy Tobias, age 78, of East Leroy peacefully passed away at home in her sleep on Sunday, August 6, 2023.  She was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on November 25, 1944, the daughter of Gerald "Popsy" and Marguerite "Mopsy" (Teague) McAllister.  Kay Joy graduated from Lakeview High School with the Class of 1962 and furthered her education at Michigan State University.  She married Forest Tobias on March 11, 1967, and they had three children, Traci, Tami, and Tommy.

Kay Joy spent many years working at Harper Creek Schools.  She started at Sonoma Elementary, volunteering on the playground and the PTA.  Kay Joy worked as a paraprofessional in the middle school and high school, and in the last few years, fondly became known as "Grandma" to everyone.  

Because of her love of shopping, Kay Joy also worked for many years at Hudson's, Marshall Field's, and Macy's.  She also loved reading and spending time with her family, especially her beloved "grands".

Kay Joy is survived by her children, Traci Tobias of East Leroy, Tami (Alan) Smith of Homer, and Tom Tobias of East Leroy; five grandchildren, Justin Holley, Taylor Holley, Audrey Smith, Evan Tobias, and Kayla Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Cash and Addison.  She was sadly preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her grandson, Brendon.

The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where a memorial service to celebrate her life will begin at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Alzheimer's Association.  Personal messages for the family may be placed here at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
