Kenneth "Ken" Groves

Kenneth G. "Ken" Groves, age 90, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Sunday evening, February 23, 2020. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 7, 1930, the son of Elton and Grace (Yates) Groves and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Boxer. Ken retired from Clark Equipment in 1985 after more than 20 years of service.

Ken married the "Love of His Life", Marlyne Oversmith in Battle Creek on January 7, 1959; she survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Julie (Mike) Hughes of Battle Creek; two sons, Ted (Jeannette) Groves of Tampa, FL and Curt (Tammie) Groves of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Brandon & Carson Groves, Samantha and Michael Hughes and Stacey (BJ) Konkle; and one great-grandson, Kellen Konkle. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Shirley Groves and three great-grandchildren who were held in our hearts but not in our hands.

A true outdoorsman, Ken especially enjoyed deer hunting with Marlyne, fishing and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed playing golf (especially with his daughter), baseball (he was invited to the Detroit Tigers tryout camp) and softball. But most of all, Ken loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where services to celebrate Ken's life will be Thursday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Joy Union Cemetery. Memorials directed to Ascension Home Hospice or Ana's Safe Haven Rescue in memory of Ken would be appreciated.
