Kenneth E. "Ken" Halstead

Kenneth Halstead, 92, of Battle Creek, died July 21, 2026. Ken was born August 12, 1933 in Barry County to Clark and Vera (Coger) Halstead. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After his time in the service, Ken started working for the Kellogg Company where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

Ken married the former Rosalie Bates on June 29, 1956, who survives. He is also survived by their children, Mark (Karen) Halstead and Julie (Jeff) McVicker; grandchildren, Joshua (Michelle) Halstead, Chad (Amber) McVicker and Joy McVicker; great-grandchildren, Keyli, Koda, Kolbi and Kade McVicker; a sister, Donna Felder; several nieces and nephews and their family dog, Dolly. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings and a granddaughter, Meagan Halstead.

Ken was a devoted member of Family Altar Chapel in Battle Creek. He enjoyed golfing, whittling (he even made a cane), playing pool and shuffleboard, hunting and doing yard work. Ken and Rosalie wintered in Florida for many years and enjoyed spending time at their cottage Up North in Harrison, MI during the summers. He always tried to attend the Clare County Fair.

Funeral services to celebrate Ken’s life will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2026 at Family Altar Chapel, officiated by Rev. Travis Davis. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
