Ken, age 71, died Tuesday morning, January 13, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI, following a lengthy illness.


Ken, the son of Kenneth G. and Helen (Morgenstern) Snyder, Sr., was born July 3, 1943 in Kalamazoo. He grew up in Kalamazoo, attended Kalamazoo Schools and completed apprentice programs through Kalamazoo Valley Community College in welding and printing. In June of 2002, after 39+ years, Ken retired from Graphic Packaging, formerly known as K.V.P. Sutherland, James Rivers, where he was employed as a pipefitter and plate maker. Ken also farmed for many years. He was man of all trades and an accomplished "Master" woodworker and welder. He enjoyed his dogs, tropical fish, the outdoors and camping


Ken married Janet L. Thomas in Marshall, MI on August 6, 1977. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Janet; three daughters, Stacy (William) Stulp and Katie (Heath) Warren , both of Kalamazoo, Shannon (Arric) LeCronier of Grand Rapids, MI; two sons, Anthony (Sandy) Snyder of Battle Creek, MI and Kenneth G. "Pete" Snyder, III of Richland, MI; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren with one expected; his brother-in-law, Lewis Howard of Kalamazoo; a sister-in-law, Joann Snyder of Delton, MI and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cheri Covert in 1992; his sister, Barbara Howard; his brother, Robert L. Snyder and by his former wife, Betty Asher.


As per Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place and eventually Janet and his cremated remains will be placed on their property together with a Memorial Service held on the farm in the Spring of 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ken's honor may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center, 200 North Park Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division, 1400 West Milham Road, Portage, MI 49024. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel (269-629-6022) is in charge of all the arrangements.
