Kenneth F. Taylor, 94, of Battle Creek died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, with his family and hospice at his side to provide comfort and care for him, on Friday, October 31, 2014.

He was born September 28, 1920 in Jackson County, Michigan to Faye and Hazel (Ottney) Taylor. Ken was a 1937 graduate of Leslie High School in Leslie, Michigan. Ken honorably served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army 99th Heavy Bombardment Group 348th Squadron, serving in North Africa. Ken retired from Michigan Bell Telephone Company in 1977, after 36 years of service.

Ken married the former, Edna J. Lake on February 27, 1942, near Grass Lake in Jackson County, Michigan. He was preceded in death by Edna, his wife of 71 years on July 1, 2013. Surviving are a daughter, Dianna L. (Harold) Robbins of Battle Creek; two sons, Terry R. (Nancy) Taylor of Bellevue and Gordon B. (Linda) Taylor of Hastings; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Ken was also preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Taylor in 2003.

Ken was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans Associations. He was a lifetime member of the Bell Telephone Pioneer Organization. After retiring, Ken spent most of his winters in Florida, including this past winter. He was very active in the Battle Creek Shuffle Board Club and the B.C. Senior Golf League; as well as the Sterling Park Golf League; and the Sterling Park and Lakeland Shuffle Board Clubs in Florida. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing; and was an avid fan of both baseball and football. Ken also played recreational baseball in the 1950's in and around the Battle Creek area.

Friends will be received 10:00-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where services will be officiated by Gordon Pippin, minister at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014. The U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Ft. Custer Honor Guard will provide military honors and interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
