Laurie A. Geer,73, of Kalamazoo passed away at home on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.
She was born September 30, 1940 in Kalamazoo, MI to James A. and Faith E. (Winters) MacGregor.
Laurie's early years were spent in Kalamazoo, Cascade, and then Delton where she graduated from high school in 1958. After attending W.M.U. for a year, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward L. Geer, July 17, 1959. The next two years were spent in Norfolk, VA, where Ed was stationed with the U.S. Navy.
After returning to Michigan, the following years were spent in the raising of five children, and various jobs, which eventually brought the family to Richland, MI. They resided in the area for nearly 34 years.
Laurie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Richland, where she taught Sunday School, edited the church newsletter for 2 ½ years, gave her time as president of the Women's Association and served as an elder for three years.
Laurie enjoyed music, books and travel, especially a memorable trip to England with family members in 1988. Most of all, she enjoyed her role as a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by Ed, her husband of 41 years, and her parents. Surviving are Laurie's five children, David E. (Karen) Geer, Deborah A. (Barry) Allen, Amy D. Geer, Frank D. (Amber) Geer and Thomas J. Geer; her five beloved grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a brother, James R. (Susan) MacGregor of Pentwater, MI; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
A service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Richland at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, with Rev. Dr. Mark W. Jennings, pastor officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Kendall Cemetery, Van Buren County following a luncheon at the church for family and friends.
