Lawrence "Larry" Akers

Lawrence "Larry" Akers, Jr., 92, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at the Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence on Saturday morning, February 6, 2021. He was born in Battle Creek on October 7, 1928, the son of Lawrence and Marguerite I. (Heble) Akers, Sr. Larry faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army and retired from the Kellogg Company after more than 42 years. He enjoyed music, coin & gun collecting, and working on cars & tractors.

Larry was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Snyder in Battle Creek on November 28, 1958; she sadly preceded him in death on October 18, 2011. He is survived by three daughters, Sue Hodge of Battle Creek, Linda (James) Howe of Grape Vine, TX and Dawn (Scott) Halbert of Battle Creek; two sons, Burt (Connie) Young of Cincinnati, OH and Rex (Pamela) Young of Holland, MI; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a sister, Carol Southern of Battle Creek. Larry was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Raymond Akers and LaVant Akers.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held later in the year, when it is safe to gather again, at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence, c/o Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
