Lawrence Paul "Larry" Wezensky

September 9, 1936 — April 11, 2022

Lawrence (Larry) Paul Wezensky, 85, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully on April 11, 2022.

Larry was born September 9, 1936 at home in Mount Pleasant, Michigan to John Anthony and Ina Mae (Smith) Wezensky. He grew up in Mount Pleasant and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy High School. Larry attended Aquinas College while working at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan as a radiology technician. Larry began his career as an electrician under the apprenticeship of his father, John A. Wezensky in Mount Pleasant. After moving to Augusta, Michigan, Larry worked at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center before serving as a part-time county electrical inspector, and 30 years as an electrician with the Kellogg Company until retiring in 1996.

Lawrence Paul Wezensky was united in marriage on June 8, 1957 at St. Joseph Parish – Wright, Conklin, Michigan, to the young lady he met while working at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Dolores Rita "Dee" Kaman. After Dolores' passing, he married Betty Kareckas (deceased, 2021). Surviving are his two sisters, Diane Prebble, Mount Pleasant, Michigan and Katy (Al) Larson of Shepherd, Michigan; daughters, Deborah Kay Wezensky of Indianapolis, Indiana, Suzanne Marie (Edward) Bauman of Battle Creek, Marianne Dolora (David) Mutch of Battle Creek and his son, Kevin Jay (Rebecca) Wezensky of Indianapolis, Indiana; nine grandchildren, John Paul (J.P.) (Janessa Pedroza) Bauman, Katrina Beth Pozeznik, Gregory Edward (Andrea) Bauman, Allison Jean Pozeznik, Kristen Elizabeth (Michael) Leifeld and Christopher Frederick Pozeznik, Kevin Clay (Rachelle) Wezensky, Hannah Dee (Alex) Neher, Noah Maxwell Wezensky; and eight great-grandchildren, Lucas Edward Leifeld, Isaiah Ronald Leifeld, Isaac Michael Leifeld, Wren Pozeznik Grey, Franklin Paul Bauman, Juliet Elizabeth Bauman, Levi Luke Wezensky, and Noelle Grace Wezensky.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife Dolores (Kaman); parents, John Anthony and Ina Mae Wezensky; sister, Margie Cruz; and brothers, John (Helen) Wezensky and Thomas Wezensky; and second wife, Betty (Kareckas).

Larry always cherished his Catholic faith. He was a faithful member of St. Philip Catholic Church in Battle Creek, Michigan. He served as a lay minister and felt deeply privileged to bring communion to the faithful. He and Dolores provided a St. Philip Catholic education for their four children, attended spiritual retreats, and maintained a vital prayer ministry. Daughters, Sue and Debbie, had the privilege of renovating the Chapel in Seton Center on the St. Philip campus where he often prayed.

Larry loved nature and especially loved having grandchildren visit the Little Clear Lake family home. His family enjoyed roaming the paths of Kellogg Forest and the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary in Augusta, Michigan. Many camping vacations often along Lake Michigan provide fondest family memories. Larry enjoyed swimming; hunted and fished with family and friends; was an avid flower and vegetable gardener; and fixed almost anything - a master of repurposing. He loved to hike and ride a bicycle. Larry's life embodied his strong faith, the importance of family and a strong work ethic. Larry will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his humble, gentle demeanor, and the joy he inspired by sharing the beauty of exploring nature. His children lovingly referred to him as "Euell Gibbons" and thought everyone knew how to identify all kinds of trees and plants.
