Lee Weller

Lee Weller, 81, of Battle Creek died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.
Lee was born in Kalamazoo on June 6, 1933 to Harry and Lillie K. (Clark) Weller. Lee lived briefly in Jackson, then moved to Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Central High School. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an operating room technician. Lee's passion was building. He was employed by several area construction companies and retired from Schweitzer Construction Company in 1991. He also built several homes in the surrounding communities such as Lakeview, Springfield and Harper Creek. He was the person people called when something needed to be built or repaired. His quality of workmanship was known by all.

Lee was united in marriage to Marian J. Farley on December 19, 1954 in Battle Creek. Surviving are Marian, his wife of 59 years; daughter, Jacqueline (Steve) Magnuson of Muskego, WI; son, Lee J. (Rebecca) Weller of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren, Sara (Toby) Jensen, Crystal (Joe) Boisvert, Brittany Magnuson, Stephanie Magnuson, Austin Weller, Blake Weller, Elizabeth Weller and Danielle Weller; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Harry (Terri) Weller of Leesburg, FL; and sister, Virginia (Don) La Crone of Tavares, FL. Lee was preceded in death by a son, David L. Weller on August 8, 2007; his parents and a brother, Chuck Weller.

Lee had many interests and reached out to pursue them. He enjoyed working with wood, construction, remodeling, boating, anything on the water, beaches, camping, hummingbirds, and traveling. Lee would try anything which included getting his pilot's license. He loved to fly to see the land, homes, buildings and just the beauty of everything. Lee also loved to travel. After he retired in 1991, he and Marian traveled the entire United States visiting landmarks, state attractions and especially Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Last year he was able to see the Spring Green home in Wisconsin that Wright lived in. He would remark how the angles and natural lighting was fascinating.

He was blessed to see each of his children grow up, get married and have children. He loved nothing more than being all together with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He has shared lots of stories, played lots of practical jokes and seen the positive when it was hard to see. For that we are grateful. He gave the very best of himself to his family.

Lee's family will receive friends 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held for Lee's family.
