Leon V. Carrier

February 28, 1922 — August 19, 2016

Leon V. Carrier, age 94, of Bedford, New Hampshire and formerly of Battle Creek died peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2016. He was born in Ingham County, Michigan on February 28, 1922, the son of Cornelius L. and Louise M. (Maurer) Carrier. Leon graduated from Eaton Rapids High School, the Argubright Business College in Battle Creek and faithfully served his country as a member of the United Sates Army from 1942 to 1945, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Legion of Honor Medal. Leon served for more than 25 years as part owner and vice-president of the Foremost Supply Co. in Kalamazoo.

Leon married Rhea Jane Topliff in Eaton Rapids, Michigan on June 29, 1946; she sadly preceded him in death on May 12, 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Paul) Breniser of Hudson, New Hampshire and Susan (Joseph) Larner of Burlington, Michigan, and two granddaughters, Amanda and Cassandra Breniser. Leon was also preceded in death by his parents.

Leon was a past member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Battle Creek and the First United Methodist Church in Hollywood, Florida. He enjoyed traveling & fishing, and spent 20 years wintering in FL and camping at Tri-Lake Trails in the summers. Leon was a Life-Member of the Battle Creek Lodge #12 F&AM and served twice as Worshipful Master, three times High Priest in Royal Arch Masons No. 19; thrice Illustrious Master of Royal and Select Masons No. 9, received the Most Illustrious Grand Master Meritorious Award; served as Commander of Knights Templar No. 33 in 1982 and started the Easter Sunrise Service at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. He was involved with the Battle Creek Shrine Club as well as serving as a DeMolay advisor. Leon received many Masonic awards including the Knights York Rite Cross of Honour, Royal Order of Scotland Honour, and was named the Battle Creek Lodge #12 Mason of the Year in 2004 for his many years of service to the local lodge and its many organizations.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at Farley Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday. Interment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army or the Battle Creek Lodge #12 Scholarship Fund c/o the Battle Creek Community Foundation.
