Leslie A. Van Geison, Jr., age 62, of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, June 27th after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) for the past 14 years. He was born February 8, 1956 in Charlotte, Michigan. Following graduation from Battle Creek Central High School he joined the United States Marine Corps. for three years and then transitioned to the United States Army where he was honorably discharged on July 5, 1978. Prior to his disability, Leslie worked at Tennaco Automotive in Marshall, Michigan.
Les was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to catch fish for his mother, who would fry and eat them for breakfast. Les was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan!
Leslie is survived by his sisters, Marjorie Humes, Margaret Claywell and Isabel Burgett, all of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda (Bunner) Van Geison; his parents, Jeanne M. Lane and Leslie A. Van Geison; a sister, Jeanne M. Edwards; and nieces, Courtney Humes and Sally (Claywell) Wilbur.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 5th at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
