Leslie T. Wilkins Sr. (Grandpa), 83, of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Born July 23, 1930 in Paris Ont. Can. Moved to Sarnia Ont. 1939 where he attended school, He then went to work as a DJ on radio in Sarnia and London. Married his first wife in 1950. Moved to United States and worked in radio in Marine City and Port Huron. Went to work on Grand Trunk Railroad in 1954 and retired with 40 years' service.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Ann E.(Todd) Wilkins, Wife of 40 years Marion Francis (Harp) Wilkins, sons Kerry Lee Wilkins, Charles Mitchell Wilkins, three brothers, Herbert James, Harvey Roy and Richard Wilkins, Granddaughter Mariana Wilkins and Grandson Sean Wright.
He is survived by sons Leslie Thomas Wilkins Jr., Leonard Carl Wilkins, Bobby Wilkins, Clifford Scott Wilkins, and daughter Roxanne Mari Olie, Tammie Espinosa, Step children Marcia Casey, John Casey, Marion Crosius, Charlene Miller, Patricia Strang, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leslie loved all sports especially baseball where he volunteered with Battle Creek Area Baseball Assoc. He was also an official scorer for the professional teams when they were here. He also was the official scorer for the Battle Creek Bombers with his final season being in 2009. His favorite job was working at the Rink with the Special Needs Children.
A memorial service was held 10:30 am Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, with Brandon N. Wilkins officiating. In lieu of flowers donations would honor his job with special needs children. This program pays for children's skating and other activities that they can't pay for.
