Lewis R. Chadderdon

Lewis R. Chadderdon, age 89, of Battle Creek, Ml, died Friday afternoon, June 26, 2015, at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo.

Lewis, the son of Earl and Gladys Chadderdon, was born on October 24,1925 in Battle Creek, Ml. He grew up in the Battle Creek area and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. Lewis worked for his father's electrical contracting company, briefly for the Gibson Guitar Company, as an ink and color specialist for International Printing Ink Company and then worked for and retired from the Kellogg Company Printing Division as a Quality Assurance Supervisor. Away from work Lewis was involved with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in his neighborhood and across the Southwest Michigan Council. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his support of the programs and also was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. Lewis also supported the American Red Cross on many blood drives, the Community Action Agency, the Post-Franklin Council, the Charitable Union, the Battle Creek Central Alumni Association and helped organize the Post School area youth softball league. He was also active in Trinity United Methodist Church of Battle Creek as a member, board member and leader of youth groups.

Lewis married Mildred A. (Youdan) Chadderdon on March 6, 1949. Surviving is his sons, Keith E. (Sherrie) Chadderdon of Castle Rock, CO and Dean R. (Cindee) Chadderdon of Townville, SC; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred, his daughter Claire V. Pumphrey, and an infant granddaughter.

The Funeral Service to celebrate Lewis's life will be held on Wednesday, July 1st at 1:00 PM at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home and Cremation Care, Battle Creek, with the Rev. David Morton officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, Battle Creek. Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 30th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
