Lila Marion (Kellogg) Howes of Galesburg, MI
Lila, age 101, died Wednesday evening, October 12, 2016 at her residence.
Lila, the daughter of John and Belle (Grodavent) Kellogg, was born in Calhoun County, MI on January 21, 1915; was a lifetime area resident and 1935 graduate of W.K. Kellogg High School in Hickory Corners, MI. She had been a bookkeeper for the Gilmore Brothers Department Store in Kalamazoo and finally retired in 1975 as a receptionist for the Battle Creek Sanitarium. She enjoyed gardening; cooking and baking for her family and friends; going to the casino's and could never pass-up a garage sale or auction.
Lila was united in marriage to Thomas Walter Howes in Augusta, MI on December 2, 1939 and he sadly preceded her in death on July 5, 1971. Surviving is her daughter, Carol R. Howes of Galesburg; her son, Glenn W. (Cindy) Howes of Richland, MI; three grandchildren, Conni Howes, Glenn W. (Alicia) Howes, Jr. and Jennifer (Kirk) Rodriguez and four precious great grandchildren, Matthew, Elliott, Nathan and Aidan. Lila was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lina Kellogg, her twin sister, Lela Chamberlain and Evelyn Pratt and by 2, ½ sisters, Hazel Whitney and Mamie North.
The Memorial Service to celebrate Lila's life will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89) with the Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating. Lila's family will greet friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Private, family interment will be held in North Athens (MI) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lila's honor may be directed to the Kalamazoo County Humane, 4239 S. Westnedge Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
