Lionel E. "Woody" Wood

June 5, 1920 — June 15, 2015

Lionel E "Woody" Wood,95, of Battle Creek went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 15, 2015.
He was born in Battle Creek on June 5, 1920 to Ellis and Annie (Pond) Wood. Woody attended Battle Creek Central High School and proudly earned his GED in 1986 at the age of 66.

Lionel was married on May 5, 1945 to Rynilda M "Muzzie" Gehrman. Being orphaned at a young age this was a big step into the large and loving Gehrman family. Sadly she preceded him in death on March 16, 2001. His desire to provide for his family led him to a lifelong career at United Steel and Wire Company. He retired in 1980.

Woody was a charter member of Redemption Lutheran Church helping with the building construction and then serving as Superintendent of Sunday School, Director of Christian Education and Director of Spiritual Life. He served his church faithfully.

Woody was just an all around fun loving outdoor man. He loved hunting, fishing for COHO, gardening with his wife, traveling, camping, lots of picture taking and just sharing new and exciting adventures with his family. He was a league bowler at Springlakes and Nottkes and had many trophies that he was proud of.

He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Chuck) Gilmer of Augusta, MI. Rhonda Miller of Battle Creek, MI. and Deb Rice of Powell, TN; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his much loved son and son-in-law, Ronald L. Wood in 2000 and Scott C. Miller in 2015.

Visitation will be Friday 5-7pm. at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, 105 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek, MI.
