Lois Eileen Capper, 90, of Prescott, AZ and formerly of Battle Creek, died at home on Monday, August 5, 2013.
Lois was born October 27, 1922 in Tarentum, PA to Raymond and Rubie (Kesner) Warner. She grew up in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania and graduated from Harbrack High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in 1944 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and continued her graduate studies at the University of Kansas. Lois was employed in the 1950's as a dietician in Petersburg, Virginia and in the 1960's as a Teacher in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.
Lois married Col. Thomas A. Capper in Harrisburg, PA on August 15, 1943. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom on August 7, 1997. Surviving are her daughters, Judith E. (Robert) Burns of Prescott, AZ; Betty Kenney (James) of Archie, MO, granddaughters, Whitney L. Reisweber of Olmsted Falls, Ohio; Chandra Shockley of Raymore, MO, great-grandchildren, Olivia and Reagan Reisweber, and Robert Blizzard; a brother, Raymond F. Warner of Riverside, CA and many nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband, Lois was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Robert and Paul Warner.
Lois was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and very active in church leadership. She was also an active volunteer for the Leila Hospital Auxiliary for 35 years. She worked on the Leila Follies for many years and served as a Costume Chairperson. As an educator and supporter of young people pursuing higher education she was active in the Scholarship Committee of the Battle Creek Health System, now referred to as Bronson Battle Creek Volunteers. She enjoyed gourmet cooking, sewing, arts and crafts and her weekly Dominos group. As the wife of an Army officer she lived in Alaska, Virginia, Germany, Kentucky, Kansas, Illinois, California and Michigan. Lois was a gracious hostess and had opportunities to host many international dignitaries during their travels. She recently lived in Westlake, Ohio to be near family and moved to Prescott, AZ this past March.
Friends will be received at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 3:00 â 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Dr. James M. Gysel at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2013. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, next to her husband, Thomas A. Capper.
