Louis Edwin "Lou" Onofrio, 86 of Richland, Michigan died suddenly, Sunday evening, August 3, 2014, at U of M Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Lou was born Aug 23, 1927 in South Haven, Michigan to parents Pat Onofrio and Dessie (Abbott) Onofrio. He graduated from South Haven High School, honorably served in the United States Navy and graduated from Western Michigan University, class of 1951. He married his love, Patricia Lee Mertes. She passed away Nov. 2011.
Living in the Richland community with his family since 1956, he worked for Eaton's (Parchment, Michigan) retiring in 1983.
An avid hunter, fisherman and trap shooter, Lou was member of the Gun River Rod & Gun Club, Plainwell, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and beloved hunting dog, Red.
Lou is survived by his children, Patrick L. (Marta) Onofrio of Union City, Robert R. (Janis) Onofrio of Kalamazoo and Merri G. Beebe of Paw Paw, grandchildren: Anthony (Anna) Onofrio of Livonia, Benjamin (Shelly) Onofrio of North Salt Lake City, Utah, and Christopher (Alison) Onofrio of Mason and Bonni Lee Beebe of Paw Paw, and great-grandchildren: Lucy and Noah Onofrio of Livonia, Miles and Thomas Onofrio of Utah and Leo Onofrio of Mason.
A private family service was held at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. Arrangements were made by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home Richland Chapel.
