Louise Caroline Fuld was born October 23, 1922 in Battle Creek, Michigan and passed away peacefully on July 29, 2016. She was born to William and Goldie (Phillips) Carnes. Her mother died in 1924 and Louise was adopted by her uncle Emery Phillips and his wife Jennie.
She was preceded in death by her brother Benjamin and her adopted parents. She attended Roosevelt, Southwestern, and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1941. She then worked as a secretary for the government at Ft. Custer and was located within shouting distance of the battalion where her future husband was stationed, but they never met... yet.
In 1944, Ft. Custer was vacated to accommodate returning war-wounded, and several army offices, along with Louise and her future sweetheart were re-located to Ft. Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas. Here she met her future husband, Herb. The couple were married in Chicago on August 15,1946 and their marriage lasted almost 70 years. Together, they raised two daughters and one son - all still residing in Battle Creek.
Louise will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother for her gentle ways. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and china painting, but she cherished her family more than anything else. Louise received an Enquirer Mother-of-the-Year award in 1977.
She gladly gave her time to PTA, Boy Scouts, Willard Library Advisory Board, and Kingman Museum, and it was through her involvement in Neighborhood Improvement Organizations that she received the George Award in 1988.
Our family's love for Louise endures.
Louise is survived by her loving husband, Herbert, daughters Kathryn (Cliff) Ward, Patricia Dodd, and son Herbert (Valerie) Fuld, and seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
