LuAlice Maple (Smith) Clayman, 76, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence on Saturday, June 11, 2016; with her husband at her side. She fought a long battle with Hepatitis C, transmitted through a blood transfusing years ago.
LuAlice was born October 20, 1939 in Battle Creek to Hallie A. and Janice M. (Haines) Smith. She was a 1957 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. LuAlice was employed for 28 years at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, retiring in 1998. Prior to that she worked briefly at the Battle Creek Enquirer. She spent 58 years with her husband raising two sons and a very precious granddaughter.
LuAlice M. Smith married Arthur Earl Clayman on April 1, 1958 at Central Christian Church in Battle Creek. Surviving are her husband, Arthur; two sons, Darrell (Crissy) Clayman of Indianapolis, IN, Dennis (Debi) Clayman of Battle Creek; a granddaughter, Sunny Morrison of Battle Creek; and a brother, Halfred (Pat) Smith of Nazareth, PA. LuAlice was preceded in death by her parents.
LuAlice enjoyed puzzles, scrapbooking, watching NASCAR and hockey; and having lunches with her friends. LuAlice will be remembered for attending Battle Creek Friends Church for over 50 years.
Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services will be officiated by Chaplain Robert Heine 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016.
