Lucy A. Burns, age 74, of Battle Creek, MI, died Wednesday morning, July 3, 2013 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence of Battle Creek, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Lucy, the daughter of Edwin Joseph and Alida Anna (Van Nus) Deering, was born on August 2, 1938 in Kalamazoo, MI; was a 1956 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and was a lifetime area resident.
She worked in the real estate field for many years along with being employed at Rite-Aid Drug Stores. Lucy had been on her neighborhood council and had served as President of the Prairie View PTA. She enjoyed wildlife and gardening, but her passion in life was being a wife and mother.
On June 1, 1957 in Parchment, MI, Lucy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald R. "Don" Burns. Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Don; three daughters, Lucy J. (Lupe) Garcia of Battle Creek, Paty S. (Mark) Murray of Kalamazoo and Lieutenant Colonel Judy J. Yoder of Cleveland, OH; her son, Michael A. (Margaret) Burns of Kingsport, TN and several nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cora Molica.
A Memorial Visitation to celebrate Lucy's life will be held on Sunday, July 7th from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek.
