Luke E. "Luke Duke" Wedl, 62, of Sault Sainte Marie, died July 1, 2021. Luke was born November 8, 1958 in Battle Creek to James and Laura (Gothard) Wedl. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1980. Luke did asbestos removal and lead abatement for about 20 years through both Detroit and Michigan Laborer's Unions, as well as several private companies. At times he was able to work with his cousin, Milton Fields, whom he was very close with.
Luke loved spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed nature, hiking, camping and watching NASCAR.
Luke is survived by his mother, Laura Lou (Gothard) Wedl; a brother, James Andrew Wedl; three sisters, Linda Sue (Charles) Rosini, Debra Kay Tousey and Ella Jane Rahmani; two sons, William "Bill" Wedl and Jimmy L. Wedl; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Luke continued to be friends and have a good relationship with his ex-wife, Janice Wedl.
Luke was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Wedl in 1968; a brother, Richard Lee Wedl in 1957 and a sister, Carol Ann (Wedl) Wilson in 1993.
Funeral services to celebrate Luke's life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the PNA Club, 15 Clair St., Battle Creek, MI 49014. There will be food and an open bar. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
