Lyle A. DeLano, 82, of Battle Creek, died April 9, 2013. Lyle was born October 10, 1930 in Battle Creek to Israel and Charlotte (Bacon) DeLano. He was a 1949 graduate of Lakeview High School, married in 1950 and two years later, was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served honorably in the Korean War. During his working days, he was employed as a bus driver and worked two long stints for Post Cereals and the Kellogg Company.
Lyle was a man of many interests. He loved camping, golfing and watching sports on television (mainly golf). He was also very talented in construction, building two houses.
Lyle is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 39 years; a son, Steven (Susan) DeLano; four daughters, Sallie (Michael) Miller, Peggy (Jeffery) Iler, Teresa (Timothy) Moss and Nancy (Steven) Fierke; a step-daughter, Terry (Larry) Yarger; two step-sons, Kurt (Denise) Jensen and Gary (Dawn) Jensen; 15 grandchildren, 17 ½ great-grandchildren, two sisters, Thelma Nay and Shirley (Lewis) Ware and a brother, William (Bonnie) DeLano.
Lyle was preceded in death by his father, his mother and step-father, Earl Rix and a sister, Mildred.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 3-6 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services to celebrate Lyle's life will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the American Red Cross.
