Mr. Lynn Eldon Mason of Gull Lake (Hickory Corners), MI
Lynn died peacefully Wednesday morning, January 15, 2020 at The Laurels of Galesburg with his daughter at his side.
Born in Kalamazoo to Thelma (Meyle) Mason and Robert L. Mason, Lynn was a lifelong resident of the Midland Park community at Gull Lake. He excelled in sports, first as the fastest running back Kellogg Agricultural School had ever seen, and after graduating in 1958, as a player for the semi-pro team in Battle Creek. A lifelong golfer, he also spent countless hours with friends and family sailing, skating and ice-boat racing on Gull Lake. He coached Rocket football, refereed local hockey games, taught his daughter how to swim and cross-country ski, and taught his nephews how to play poker. Lynn worked for many years as a carpenter and maintained the grounds at Maple Hills Golf Course. He cared for his parents until their deaths. A beloved fixture in the community, Lynn was known for his giving nature and irreverent sense of humor, which made him a favorite of the Laurels residents and staff. Undoubtedly his gentle spirit will travel the lakeside roadways as he did so oftenâby 10-speed bike.
Lynn was predeceased by an older sister, Sharon Mason, and an infant daughter. He is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Dunnick, husband, Eric, and granddaughters, Olivia, Alex and Jenny, of San Diego, CA. Also surviving are Lynn's younger sister, Janice (husband, Mike Waldorf) of Richland, MI, brother, Bob Mason (wife Vicki) of Augusta, MI, and six nieces and nephews.
