M. Arlene Green Davis

M. Arlene (Green) Davis, 94, of Marshall and formerly of Battle Creek, died at Maplewood Assisted Living on Thursday, July 18, 2013.

Arlene was born in Boyne City, MI to Clyde D. and Ada M. (Wilson) Canute on December 11, 1918. She grew up in Traverse City, was a 1936 graduate of Traverse City High School and attended Lewis & Chapin Business School. Arlene came to Battle Creek from Jackson after WWII. She retired as a Library Secretary in the early 1980's from Battle Creek Public Schools, where she was employed for 28 years.

Arlene married Harold K. Green December 25, 1937. Harold preceded her in death on October 17, 1971. On October 8, 1988, Arlene married Ervin P. Davis. After their marriage they lived in Traverse City, until after Ervin's death on July 15, 2007. Surviving are her daughter, Judith M. "Judy" (Gus) Groat of Marshall; a daughter-in-law, Diane Green of Tekonsha; stepson, and Roy (Colleen) Davis; five grandchildren, Jodi (Mike) Payne, Carla (Gerry) Bennison, Nicholas Groat, Michael (Vicky) Groat, Matthew (Katrina) Groat; and nine great¬-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Arlene was also preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Green; a stepson, Paul Davis; a grandson, Harold K. "Bud" Green; two brothers, Evan and Russell Canute; two stepsisters, Vera Godina and Helen Garn; and a stepbrother, Vernon Hayes.

Arlene was a member of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, Grant United Methodist Church in Traverse City, a former member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and attended Marshall Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed arts and crafts, oil painting, watercolors and reading.

Friends will be received 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Monday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Melany Chalker at 12:00 noon Monday, July 22, 2013. Entombment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
