M. Jean Myers

M. Jean Myers, age 80, of Kalamazoo, MI, died Monday morning, June 17, 2013 at her residence, following a brief illness and surrounded by her loving family.
Jean, the daughter of Robert and Amanda Evelyn (Slack) Whipple, was born on June 4, 1933 in Augusta, MI; she was a lifetime area resident and a 1972 graduate of Comstock High School. She retired in 1992 as a Library Secretary for the Comstock Public Schools after 30 years of faithful service. Jean was an avid reader and bell collector; she enjoyed sewing and working on puzzles, but her true passion in life was her family.
On September 1, 1950 in Augusta, Jean was united in marriage to Richard Arlen Myers, who preceded her in death on February 15, 2005. Surviving are two sons, Roger W. (Deb) Myers and Richard A. "Rick" (Carol) Myers, both of Comstock Township; five grandchildren, Marisa Lesterhouse, George (Maddie) Myers, Jillian (JJ) Smith, Matt Myers and Juliann Myers; two great grandchildren, Savannah and Chloe Lesterhouse and her daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Myers of Yuma, AZ. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gary W. Myers on April 3, 2013; two sisters, Virginia Luker and Ethel Nelson and her brother, Clinton Snyder.
A Joint, Funeral Service to celebrate Jean and Gary's lives will be held on Monday, June 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Augusta Chapel, 307 N. Webster Street, with the Rev. Dr. Paul R. Naumann, Pastor of St. Michael Lutheran Church of Portage, MI, officiating. Final interment will follow next to her beloved husband, Richard in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI and Full, Military Honors bestowed by the United States Marine Corps and the Fort Custer Honor Guard for Gary. Family and friends are invited to continue Jean and Gary's life celebrations with a time of fellowship and a luncheon at the Augusta Fellowship United Methodist Church, 103 N. Webster Street. Friends will be received on Sunday, June 23rd from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
